Spy on Your Website Visitors

Visitor Spy

This is so cool. I think. Here’s the spiel:

ETHICALLY spy on your websites visitors. Gather cash-pulling intelligence by watching their every click, movement, and action. Increase sales, sign-ups, and conversions. Yes! We have the technology where a simple line of code on your site can…

This really grabbed my interest, so I tried out the live demo. You move around on the page, click on some stuff, tick a box or two, go to another page, and then watch it all get played back to you! It is so cool! Spy on Your Visitors » » »

What’s Hot and What’s Not - O’Reilly’s State of the Computer Book Market 2008

March 1, 2009 by CBO · Leave a Comment

The stats are in for 2008. I always look forward to the O’Reilly report on the State of the Computer Book Market - kind of gives you a look at which technologies are gaining interest and which are losing it.

No longer written by Tim O’Reilly, this year’s (and last year’s) report was written by Mike Henderson, O’Reilly’s publisher for the Open Tech eXchange division.

This year the report has 5 parts:

Seth Godin for $1.00 or Less

October 18, 2008 by CBO · Leave a Comment

TribesAs always, Seth Godin has hit another home-run! His new book Tribes tells us how to lead our organizations.

Tribes are everywhere, in companies large and small, and their members are hungry for connection, meaning, and change–in other words, for leadership. For the first time, explains Godin, everyone has an opportunity to lead, not just be bosses. In Tribes, he explains how.

Seth has a Squidoo lens that lists 86 (so far) reader-submitted ways to build Tribes, and they are so right-on! The lens is called Tribe Building Tactics.

Seth says: By tactics, I mean specific things you can do to engage people, to build community and identity, to create connections and participation. Online or offline.

Now his book Tribes is available as an iTunes download for less than a buck, or from Audible for free, other than your name and email address. The links are also available here on Seth’s blog.

I’m downloading my copy now!

The Magazine for Website Success

October 17, 2008 by CBO · Leave a Comment

If you run a website, you gotta have Website Magazine. It’s free - if you qualify - and all you have to do to qualify is own a website. It only comes 4 times a year, so it’s not intrusive, but it’s such a great magazine, you’ll wish it came more often.

Here’s just a quick summary of some of my favorite stories in the latest issue -

Should Comparison Shopping Engines be Part of Your PPC Mix?  Listing your products with CSEs (like PriceGrabber, Shopping.com, Nextag) can be a very good thing. People who click on your products are looking for a very specific item and are usually looking to buy. Much more targeted than PPC (pay per click).

Understanding Consumer Behavior with Web Analytics Do you know where your customers are coming from? What they are looking for? Do you know if your PPC campaigns are converting to sales? Web Analytics can tell you this and more. And these days Web Analytics are available to even the tiniest company at a price they can afford - free.

Top 50 SEO Firms and Resources Software providers, services, and companies that can help you dominate the SERPs (search engine results pages).

Google Page Rank - Sculpting for SEO Profits To follow or rel=nofollow. Don’t bleed your page rank away.

Six Degrees of Social Computing - Creating Relationships on the Web When it comes to Web 2.0, it’s all about relationships. As a web professional, you want to attract visitors to your site AND encourage them to return again and again. Here’s how to do it.

Top Secret E-Commerce Tactics I can’t tell you about this, it’s top secret.

Get Your Website Included in Google News Google News is one of the top five most visited news portals on the web. IF YOU HAVE A NEWS SITE, this article tells you just what you need to do to get listed.

Some of the other stories:

  • Tax Havens for Online Businesses
  • Developing Effective Affiliate Policies
  • Online Video Fundamentals for E-Commerce
  • A Startup’s Guide to Generating Online Ad Revenue
  • 5 Effective Wiki Uses

And there are even more. Even the ads in this mag are interesting! I subscribe to a lot of industry mags, and this is definitely one of my favorites.

To get it, you have to fill out a form with your name, address, phone, etc, and answer approximately 10 questions about your organization. LIke “what’s your primary position”, “how long have you been in the internet field”, easy questions like that. No credit card numbers, social security numbers, nothing like that.

A free magazine offering practical advice and helpful tools from industry experts to help any website achieve Internet success.

TO QUALIFY FOR A FREE SUBSCRIPTION, YOU (or your company) MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE WEB SITE.

Until now, there has not been a magazine that caters exclusively to the business of running a website. Website Magazine has tapped premier talent in the Internet industry for our content and each and every issue will contain practical advice and insights for website owners. Get it here.

And then come back and tell us what you think of it!

Google Says Don’t Worry About DMOZ

October 5, 2008 by CBO · 2 Comments

GoogleGOOGLE HAS CHANGED their webmaster guidelines by removing these suggestions:

1. Have other relevant sites link to yours.

2. Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.

I, for one, am glad to see it. Getting listed in DMOZ was always one of the most important places you could have your site listed, as far as Google/SEO was concerned. More DMOZ » » »

Tips for a Safe Buying Experience on eBay

July 14, 2008 by CBO · Leave a Comment

eBay TipsHERE ARE A FEW SIMPLE GUIDELINES that can make buying on eBay a secure, safe, and rewarding   experience.

The first step is do not hesitate to ask the Seller questions about the item you are considering bidding on.  Most Sellers’ list an item with a photo but this does not always show the item completely.  Ask the Seller to email additional photos that might show the item from a different angle or in a better light. Seth Godin - Internet Marketing Guru and Creator of Squidoo

July 14, 2008 by CBO · Leave a Comment

Seth GodinFOR THOSE OF YOU who don’t know Seth Godin, he is an Internet marketing guru, writer, speaker, and the creator of Squidoo.

What is Squidoo? It’s an outrageously popular website that lets you create a “lens” (basically a web page) about whatever you are an expert in.

Think you’re not an expert on anything? Think again. Seth says that everyone is an expert on something. Read his free eBook - Everyone Is An Expert - and find the expert in you!

Squidoo has Google-type ads on it, and you can earn the money generated from the ads. You can have 100% of the revenue, or you can give all or part to the charity of your choice. And if you have a website, a Squidoo lens will most likely generate a ton of traffic to it. More Seth » » »
