Best Accounting Software Programs

It’s tax season again, and there are a lot of options out there for getting your taxes done. You can hire an accountant, or pull out your calculator and try your hand at doing it yourself.

Accounting Software

However, if you hire an accountant or a firm, you could end up paying a pretty penny for the service. If you do it yourself, then you risk doing it wrong and the consequences can be costly.

So what is the best choice? I have found investing in accounting software to be the best option. This way, you purchase the software one time and then you can do it yourself year-after-year without the risk of miscalculating your taxes. If you go with this choice, then you have a lot of options as to which software to purchase. Here are some of the best programs, with a description of each to better help you decide.

Outright

If you own a small business then Outright might be the best choice for you. Outright makes it simple for small businesses to take care of the day-to-day tax work as well as quarterly and yearly taxes. It also allows you to go “paperless” as it you can store all of your data in Outright. With Outright there is a free option or you can pay $9.95/month for a “plus” account which offers incentives such as sales tax tracking. Price: Free-$9.95/month.

Sorry! Outright no longer exists!

ZoHo Books

ZohoWhile Outright might be the best selection for a small business owner, ZoHo Books might be the most convenient.

ZoHo Books also allows your business to automate several day-to-day activities, giving you the freedom to not have to worry about, or spend time with, such tasks. Price: $39.00

Fresh Books

Fresh Books, in my opinion, is where you will get the most for your money. Designed for small business, Fresh Books is a cloud-based program which gives you the freedom to access your account from any device, including mobile devices. Fresh Books allows its users a free, 30 day trial and if you are happy with the program then you can choose a plan after that 30 day period. Price: Free-$39.95/month.

Sage 50

Sage 50 offers a myriad of accounting software programs. These programs are simple and user friendly. Sage 50 works well for small business accounting as well as for personal accounting. One program that Sage 50 offers is Sage One which allows its users to manage their account from anywhere. Price: $239.99-$499.99

Intuit QuickBooks

You get what you pay for. Intuit QuickBooks is the most expensive piece of software on this list, but it offers a lot of quality accounting solutions. With QuickBooks you can make the transition to a paperless system with a secure program that is easily accessible.

QuickBooks helps you to create a streamlined system that is well organized; which is what is needed for any small business to run efficiently. Price: Free- $999.95

Do your research and figure out which solution is best for you and don’t be afraid to pay for a program that may be a little more expensive. Accounting programs are an investment that can save you in the long run.
