Concepts, Implementation and Benefits of Configuration Management

November 29, 2009 by CBO · Leave a Comment

Configuration Management

Configuration Management is the effective management of an Information System.  The optimum utilization of an Information System is done by maintaining the standards in terms of performance efficiency, functional accuracy, and the consistency of physical attributes of the involved parameters.

The Information System essentially involves the hardware and the software components of a larger system.  The creation of an effective Information System would involve the conceptualization, implementation, and realization of the system as a whole, plus its individual components. This would involve documentation of the usages, needs, and various quality parameters of the software and hardware components of the system, keeping in mind the overall information architecture.  The true realization of an effective Information System would mean comprehensive testing of all the features of the Information System. Spy on Your Website Visitors

Visitor Spy

This is so cool. I think. Here’s the spiel:

ETHICALLY spy on your websites visitors. Gather cash-pulling intelligence by watching their every click, movement, and action. Increase sales, sign-ups, and conversions. Yes! We have the technology where a simple line of code on your site can…

This really grabbed my interest, so I tried out the live demo. You move around on the page, click on some stuff, tick a box or two, go to another page, and then watch it all get played back to you! It is so cool! Spy on Your Visitors » » »

The Access 2007 Ribbon

Send Keys and Clear Grid

OK, I upgraded to Office 2007, and the dreaded new Ribbon isn’t so bad. You just have to look around a bit to find things. But some things I just could not find.

  • Where is the SendKeys macro action?
  • Where is the query Clear Grid command?

Both of these questions were driving me crazy! Finally, I posted them in an Access newsgroup, hoping to find an answer. I got several, but the #1 answers came from a guy named Jeff Conrad, who, as it turns out, just happens to be one of the authors of a book we carry called Microsoft Access 2007 Inside OutRibbon » » »

March 1, 2009 by CBO · Leave a Comment

The stats are in for 2008. I always look forward to the O’Reilly report on the State of the Computer Book Market - kind of gives you a look at which technologies are gaining interest and which are losing it.

No longer written by Tim O’Reilly, this year’s (and last year’s) report was written by Mike Henderson, O’Reilly’s publisher for the Open Tech eXchange division.

This year the report has 5 parts:

All About the SSL Protocol

December 11, 2008 by CBO · Leave a Comment

SSL ProtocolWhat is SSL?

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Originally developed by Netscape and now a de-facto standard for secure communication over the internet, SSL is implemented by all secure web servers and browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera etc.

Where SSL is used

The widest use of the SSL protocol is done in browsers. It will secure the browser of any site on the internet, for example: for login pages, or online banking, or any other financial site. Accessing any site starting with https://  in the address bar of the browser initiates the SSL connection between the browser and the SSL server,  e.g. https://www.paypal.com in your address bar will establish a secure SSL connection between the browser and the web server of www.paypal.com. Apart from this SSL can be used in FTP or any other application layer protocols. SFTP implements SSL for FTP.
